Talk: Alfredo Ávila

We sat down with Mexican House producer Alfredo Ávila to talk about his 4th EP on the label and house music in general.

Welcome yet again to the label! It is your 4th EP already with us, how does that make you feel?

Hello, it makes me feel extremely happy and above all grateful to the record label for giving me a space in their catalog,
it has always been one of my favorite places to release my music.

Your music always has a deep and soulful touch, sometimes even a bit nostalgic.
Can you explain how you reach that sound, or what is your process when you make a track? Do you go for a certain feel from the start, or do your tracks reflect your feeling of the moment?

I have really always been characterized by having an extreme taste for honeyed and dramatic sounds, I always try to reflect my life experiences in each release, from love situations, to a trip with friends, there is really nothing that I try to omit when I make music. I always try to be honest with my feelings to get something out there. Every year is a different Alfredo and for the same reason my music evolves with me.

“Every year is a different Alfredo.
My music evolves with me.”

We are very happy at House Cookin Records we have so many different nationalities amongst our producers, you yourself are from Mexico, can you tell us how you first heard about House music?
What effect it had on you when you first heard it, or why did you choose House music as a producer?

Percussions and classic sounds, I am a deep house lover, there is everything that I look for musically in a track.
The first time I heard deep house was in a song from one of my favorite Sonic video games for my Gamecube, I just liked going through that same part of the game to enjoy the song, it made me feel fantastic and somewhat excited because my childhood imagination was flying along with that theme.
The videogames have had a lot of influence on me, as well as my parents and their taste for the music of the 80s and 90s.

How is the House music scene in Mexico? Do you have some nice concepts/parties in your area, or do you have to go to bigger cities to really get the underground House sounds?

House music is gaining strength more and more that I can say is good, but people still need to be encouraged more and lend themselves more to experiment with things they do not know.
In my country they are more closed with adopting a good culture and musical criteria but little by little it is being achieved with the movement we try to make.
Currently with the White Deer Records crew, we are working to make more people love and know house, making parties, events, and even friendly meetings, I am proud of my crew and the work we are doing.

If you could ask any producer in the world alive today to do a collab with, who would you choose?

Kerri Chandler.

Solid choice!
We know you like food as well. So if someone visits Mexico for the first time, what would you recommend them to definitely try?

Definitely one torta of cochinita pibil.

Ok Alfredo, thanks a lot for your time.
We are super thrilled to have you on board for the 4th time on the label, and we are big fans of your sound, obviously.
And we are also looking forward to your track on our next vinyl which will be out soon!!!

Lastly, is there anything else you want to tell the people, something you want to share that is going on in your life right now?

Of course I would love to ask you to support the work we are doing with house in Mexico supporting White Deer Records, and above all to take the time to listen to what we have on this side of the world because there is a lot of quality, I will be giving what best for all of you, thanks for the invitation.
